Metis Lab / Researching Learning

The architecture of learning in the age of AI.

Metis Lab studies how people, institutions, and intelligent technologies learn together. We develop research, tools, and public programmes for a future in which learning remains deeply human.

Based in the UK. Working across disciplines and borders.

What should learning become when intelligence is everywhere?

AI is changing the conditions under which knowledge is made, shared, assessed, and valued. The important question is not simply what these systems can do. It is how we design the environments around them: the classrooms, workplaces, communities, and institutions where people form judgment, capability, and meaning.

Metis Lab brings together research in learning sciences, cognitive science, design, and technology to investigate that question.

01

Human OS

Treating the human inner system as a designable architecture, not something left to chance.

02

Epistemic Agency in AI-Augmented Organisations

How organisations keep, or quietly lose, independent judgment as AI enters how they reason and decide.

03

Knowledge Structures for AI Reasoning

Restructuring knowledge so AI systems can reason with it, not just retrieve it.

04

Tacit Knowledge and Leadership Learning

How tacit knowledge gets surfaced, taught, and passed on, particularly through narrative and dialogue.

05

Decision-Making in Human-AI Collaboration

How decision quality changes when people reason through a problem together with AI.

Research is stronger when it enters the world.

We work with educators, researchers, technologists, cultural organisations, and public institutions. Our collaborations turn questions into experiments, shared language, practical tools, and new forms of learning.
